Ian Fay

Ian H. Fay, Managing Director, brings over 22+ years of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and general strategic advisory work across the energy and natural resources sectors.

Ian joined Headwaters in 2016 to work with middle market companies in the energy and natural resources sectors. Prior to Headwaters, Ian provided independent strategic advisory and consultancy services to companies, boards, management teams and private equity firms primarily in the energy and natural resources sectors. 

Prior to his role as independent advisor, Ian served in the role of Chief Financial Officer for ZaZa Energy Corporation from August of 2012 to May of 2014.  Bringing his extensive background of more than 19 years in investment banking to ZaZa, Mr. Fay oversaw all finance and accounting functions, as well as investor relations, public relations and business development.  He acted in the key role of sourcing and evaluating all strategic transactions on both the buy-side and sell-side, as well as served as the primary corporate contact for lenders, bankers and private capital providers, to secure new sources of funding to ensure the company’s continued growth and successful execution of its strategic plans.

Prior to joining ZaZa Energy Corporation as its CFO, Ian was a Founding Partner of Odin Advisors LLC, a full service mergers and acquisitions advisory boutique, with partners located in New York, Houston and London, which advised leading companies and strategic and financial investors primarily in the Energy & Natural Resources sectors.  Other notable positions Mr. Fay has held over his extensive career in investment banking include Managing Director and Head of the Energy & Natural Resources Group - Americas for BNP Paribas, and Managing Director of mergers and acquisitions for RBC Capital Markets, concentrating on Energy (E&P, MLP and Oil Field Services), Consumer and Biotech companies.  Ian also advised multi-national public and private clients across multiple sectors as Director of mergers and acquisitions for UBS Investment Bank.  Prior to UBS, Ian was a Vice President in the mergers and acquisitions group at Prudential Securities, Inc., and an Associate at Rothschild Inc., where he focused on cross-border mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and bankruptcies.

A recipient of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, Ian is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as a member of the Board of Visitors from 2011-2014.
